INSECTS
Do I need grub control?
What is sod webworm?
There are yards we have never applied control measures for insects. There are some yards that we will not service unless insecticide is applied. Whether control is needed or not is based on the history of the yard and surrounding area.
Grubs - If you can pick-up a section of grass easily from the soil and see no roots on the bottom of the piece in your hand then a good case can be made that grubs are the culprit. If caught early enough in the season control measures can have positive benefit in reducing the grub population causing the damage.
Sod Webworm - At the end of July and the first
part of August there might be some moths flying around the yard. Sod webworm
lives in the thatch and cuts down grass plants like a lumberjack felling
trees in the forest. When scared out of the home they fly at 45-degree
angles from the source of disturbance, travel for ten feet or so and land.
If there are a lot of these flying critters in the yard treatment should
be scheduled immediately.
